| Guns & Talks and Someone Special director Jin Jang returns with The Big Scene, another interesting film that gives the viewers an old-school murder mystery with a modern-day twist. In this film we follow prosecutor Choi Yeon-gi as he thinks he’s just nabbed the killer of a young women that occurred in a high-glass hotel. Instead of getting a full confession from the killer he denies it and claims he's innocent. As they retrace the crime-scene and discover more clues and questionable witnesses along the way, it slowly becomes clear that maybe the person they have in custody really is as innocent as he claims to me, and the real murderer is still out there.
I enjoyed this movie, despite it being a draining two-hours -- it tend to drag on a bit with excessive dialogue during certain scenes. Though, thanks to the characters and some of the comedy relief that some characters bring to the table, we're never really bored by what's going on. The story successfully manages to keep the viewer guessing as to who really is behind the murder, which is normally something hard to come-by now-a-days. A couple interesting points which I liked most, would be how the film takes place in a 48-hour time-frame, revealing how even a stone-cold murder case can fall apart when further clues surface. |
