DIRECTOR'S NOTES:
I was a country boy living in Kangwon Province. A small school in the countryside was the whole world to my friends and I. On the way to school, I'd cross over a trickling brook, and a bridge covered with gravels of different colors. Going to school was as if I was going to meet a friend. Even on days when I was too busy with farming and couldn't go to school, I felt like it was still a place that would always wait for me like a friend.

My teacher...He had a simple smile, and always cared for our parents who worked hard as farmers. Azalea flowers starting to bud in spring were our favorite snack as kids. Also, fishing and splashing water with the teacher was a precious pastime for us, and no matter how much we did it, we never got sick of it.

And now that I've become a movie director, those memorable times with my teacher and friends and at our school all became a story that I really wanted to tell to the audience.

So I hope that this will become a story that everyone will remember, instead of being just a faded memory.

PRODUCTION NOTES:
Having lost five kilograms to prepare herself for this role, JANG Jin-young displayed for the first time in 'Scent of Love' her capabilities in tear-filled acting. In total she appears in 13 scenes in which her character cries. Considering that the scenes in which she appears, from the time of her character's college years to the end of the film, total 32, almost half of her scenes required her to cry. Everyone knows the difficulty of performing such scenes, but JANG Jin-young carried it off so well that she made it look easy.

Some actresses are remembered fondly for their performances in Korean melodramas, such as SHIM Eun-ha in 'Christmas in August', JEON Do-yeon in 'A Promise', CHOI Jin-shik in 'The Letter', LEE Young-ae in 'Last Present', and LEE Mi-yeon in 'Indian Summer'. Now JANG Jin-young adds her name to this list as one of the premiere heroines of Korean cinema.

A new force has appeared in the Korean film industry. The focus of the film world's highest expectations in 2003 is actor PARK Hae-il.

Following the line of celebrated actors such as HAN Suk-kyu ('The Contact', 'Christmas in August'), PARK Shin-yang ('The Letter',' A Promise'), LEE Jung-jae ('Il Mare', 'Over the Rainbow'), and YU Ji-tae ('Ditto'), PARK Hae-il made his debut as a guitar-strumming high school student in 'Waikiki Brothers', followed by his acclaimed role in PARK Chan-ok's award-winning 'Jealousy is My Middle Name' (winner of the New Currents award at Pusan 2002 and the VPRO Tiger Award at Rotterdam 2003). Now, in taking on the role of "In-ha" in 'Scent of Love', he is the focus of the Korean film industry's highest expectations.

He appears in no less than three films this year. Among them he takes the lead in 'Scent of Love', the story of a woman's sadness at parting from the man who has given her the happiest moments of her life. In his other two films as well, he plays key roles that highlight his acting talent. After being recognized for his potential in 'Waikiki Brothers', this year he displays his abilities as an actor of the highest level. After the praise lavished on 'Jealousy is My Middle Name' at the 2003 International Film Festival Rotterdam secured the film an international audience, PARK appears again in 'Scent of Love', drawing forth tears from countless female viewers with his portrayal of a selfless and devoted love.
