Mildly entertaining. Watch it only to see Jackie Chan. This is the movie that inspired Jackie to include NG scenes (out-takes) in his movies.

I actually forced myself to watch this wretch of a movie, hoping it would chill together. Turns out this was one of those movies that never should have been made. Never. It's not even a "so bad it's funny" B-movie. It's not racing, more like racism! This movie really left a nasty taste in my mouth. If it's any consolation, the writers manage to insult and stereotype everyone. I guess they thought "hey, that Asian guy over there can be Japanese, he's got kind of slanty eyes don't he?" I'm not exagerating much at all. They have Jackie paired up with the actor who played Lurch (can't think of his name), but because he is very tall and has less than a pretty boy face he has always been the butt of bad jokes which you will find plentiful. They even have a TV with porn tapes - a drugged and raped woman, says the verbal overlay, will only remember being loved like never before. And it only gets worse!!! Never buy this insulting, degrading piece of crap. If you find one laying around do yourself and others a favor. Toss it in the first garbage recepticle you find and don't look back.

This was a great movie...in 1981. Jackie is barely in this movie and when he is on screen his role is just as stereotypical Japanese character. Degrading. I'm giving a 3 for nostalgia only.

Silly, silly. What the heck were you doing? Get the best action star at that time and what do you put him in a racing film. I know jackie has a love for racing cars and thats why he choose the part, but it was just crap. The producers and directors just took the pee and made him look a prat. Mind you these crap american films made jackie produce some the best action films the world has seen. so in a way I should be thanking them for making it so crap. OH! got side tracked don't buy this movie!

This is the Greatest movie of all time. Where else can you get Burt, Dom, Sammy, Dean and yes of course Jackie in one movie? I'll tell you where else, Cannonball Run II, that's where. Both of these movies are great car movies of the 80's. They are both funny and they both have a fight scene. Not to mention HOT CHICKS! As for an HK flick it is horrible, but as a fun loving Burt Reynolds flick it reigns supreme. Burt should make more HK flicks.

We concede that this film was supposed to be silly, but we find it to be unbearably so. There aren't more than a couple of exciting racing or crashing sequences (which are short) in this 90-minute ordeal. The remaining 89 minutes are jammed full of horrible puns, insultingly bad acting, and lame low-key racism. The plot, on the other hand, isn't jam-packed with anything at all.

Jackie Chan (in a very, very small part) is supposed to be a Japanese racer, even though he's Chinese and speaks (unsubtitled) Cantonese throughout the film...? And every time he appears on screen, a clichéd little "generic Oriental music" cue is played. Why didn't they subtitle his lines? Presumably because they didn't even consider him worth understanding. They obviously didn't care what nationality he was, or what language he was speaking. He's just there as "the zany Oriental guy". Cannonball Run is both a low point in American filmmaking and a fairly disturbing bit of social commentary on mainstream America's views of Asians at the time.

If you're looking for an incredibly slow-paced film with every single one of America's worst TV and B-movie actors and celebs from the 1980s, then this film is right up your alley. If you think all Asian people look and sound the same and aren't worth understanding anyway, then by all means, check this one out. But if you're expecting a funny film with lots of action and cool cars, the Cannonball Run will bring your evening to a screeching halt far short of the finish line.
