Jet Li and Collin Chou (Ngai Sing) rule! Their fight scene is awesome and though this film rips off pretty much everything from "The Bodyguard", it is still entertaining and a must-see for Jet Li fans like me.
Great action, mediocre story. Worth a look!
| I'm feeling mean today. Perhaps I shall take out my agression on a film that brutally disappointed and annoyed me several years ago. About ten years ago I gave this movie a try and was very let down. Around three years later I gave it another try and got the same results. Initial end of viewing thoughts: well that sucked...again. Who thought this compost heap of a flick was a good idea? Who in their right mind says let's remake a cheesy, crappy American chick flick and cast an up and coming kung fu/action star in the lead role? Much like padded bras this is a form of false advertising. Guys get the impression they are going to check out an action or kung fu movie when in fact the action and kung fu in the movie is quite minimal. Minimal. The majority of the movie is spent with soap opera type of goo goo drama class drivel spewing all over the place. Bring a mop. The action that is present( what there is of it) is however pretty decent and enjoyable but there is not enough of it and there are moments that could have perhaps transitioned better. A complete disappointment and in my opinion Jet Li's worst flick. I mean seriously, a Jet Li chick flick? For: chicks who like Jet Li and very bored folks with money to throw away. In my opinion, don't. |

When I saw this in SF Chinatown at first I didn't recognize Li with hair! The movie is okay, but there's no magic between Li and Christy Cheung. The fighting scenes are pretty cool but can't save an average film. Still better than the original.

A very good flick in my opinion. I enjoyed the characters--especially Jet Li's & Christy Chung's. I think they gave good performances. The action is great--Jet Li is lightning. A little to much gun action for my taste, but he is a bodyguard.
This is an OK movie. There is two good fighting/gun action scenes.
I went crazy about Jet Li after watching this movie. It was fabulous. All cast and crew met their demand. Christy looked amazing, but i lost my heart to Jet Li...
This was a pretty good movie when I saw the Hong Kong version. When I saw the English dubbed version. What the hell??!! How dare they go and destroy a good movie like this??
The thing that bothered me the most was that they took most of the soundtrack off of it. They renamed it "The Defender", I guess they didn't want it to be confused with that Whitney Houston movie.
