I first saw this film as a poor quality VHS copy, and in spite of that I was still blown away by it. This is one of those movies that you have to watch loud. I mean loud as in your neighbors down the street should be sharing in the experience. DVDs were falling off the shelves when I watched it, and it still could have used more volume! Since then I've seen it on the big screen (New York - Tokyo Film Festival, where it was not quite loud enough) and of course purchased the DVD.
The running time is a bit short at under one hour, but the storytelling is effective. I would have been happier if it was longer, but that was because I enjoyed it so much I wanted more. If you like noise, Tadanobu Asano, or early Sogo Ishii films like "Crazy Thunder Road", this is a must-have. |
