| Overview: | The setting is late 1800's Guangdong (Canton). Chan Mong Gat (Stephen Chow) is a famous lawyer more renowned for his pranks on people. During a puppet show, he and his servant Ho Foon (Eric Kot) meet up (so to speak) with puppeteer Lotus Shui (Chingmy Yau). They invite her over to his mansion where they are about to play a dirty trick on her. But before she arrives, Wu Man (Karen Mok), the wife of Chan, has come back from England from her studies. She accidentally destroys the plan of Chan and Foon. Later on, Foon and Chan get into an argument, whereupon Foon leaves the Chan household and goes to Hong Kong.
In Hong Kong he is accused of murdering a guy named Ho Chin (Moses Ho), and is framed by Ho Chung (Bowie Lam). Foon decides to use Chan as his lawyer. The resulting sequence of events lead to a somewhat entertaining conclusion.
Although this movie employs many of the 'mo lei tau' tricks of his past movies, it just isn't quite the same. Perhaps a case of 'been there, seen that'. More likely it's because Stephen as a overbearing, 'not underdog' character is much less appealing. Worth a couple of yuks though.
