"Tube" is another Hollywood rip off from Korea. Think about the ending of "Speed" with the subway and then you have this silly action flick. The opening was great, guns blazing and a hard bioled cop kicking ass--what more do you want in an action flick? Sadly that was the only excitement. The plot was horrible, and the action scenes were cliche.
Kim Suk-Hoon spends most of the film trying to be Chow Yun-Fat, and fails miserably.
Bless them for trying, but emulating flashy, empty Hollywood blockbusters isn't the way to go.
The characters were dull, as was the story. The effects looked cheap too.

I thought this movie was quite a decent action movie. It held my attention throughout and was entertaining. It is nowhere near as bad as some reviews indicate.
| What happens when a Korean movie gets made with the look and feel of a Hollywood action movie? Tube happens. It's big on flash, low on substance and even style. It's not that it was bad; it's just that it was obvious, predictable, clichéd and way too fake. Obviously, it's just a movie so it will be quite fake, but this was just over the top with its faux happenings.
The bad guys, led by T, seemed to have no real motivation for being horrible, merciless killers until their surprise history is revealed, and even then it's hard to see why they'd be so evil. Jay, a cop who always seems to be in the right place at the right time to stop evil T, and Kay (the always cute Bae Du-na, even after getting wailed on in the face three times by a grown man and only ends up with a small split lip to show for it), a small time pick pocket, have no backgrounds or explanations as to how or why they are involved with the whole story or each other. But of course, they fall for each other just before the ultimately predictable ending. Same story, different movie. There really wasn't much special about Tube, but it was slightly enjoyable. The shootout at the beginning was flashy garbage with dozens of SWAT cops getting slaughtered and none of the terrorists getting even close to remotely even being the least bit scathed by a single bullet (that is, of course, until Jay comes in to save the day). The ending was probably the best part of the movie, even if it was very predictable. Overall, you should probably skip it. It doesn't have anything special to offer. |
