But to the childrens' rescue comes an old family friend, in whose magical and mysterious emporium Alexander encounters the supernatural forces which contribute to the family's eventual reunion. An optimistic and enchanting evocation of childhood, 'Fanny and Alexander' is, without doubt, Bergman's masterpiece.
