The Chinese version of this film is the best. I enjoyed this version thouroughly. However, if you are looking for the absolute "pure" version possible of this film, you have to buy the VCD, because the VCD is uncut AND undubbed. However, if you speak Mandarin, then you wouldn't mind this film. Here are some of the differences between the American and Chinese versions:
- The American version renamed it to "Jackie Chan's First Strike."
- The underwater fight seen is much longer and comical than in the American version.
- The fight seen of Jackie Chan versus the bodyguards with sticks and using a ladder and a broomstick to defend himself is a bit longer in the HK version. The American version did really bad editing of that fight.
- Although this DVD is all dubbed in Mandarin, the original VCD version is in Cantonese, English, Mandarin, and a little bit of Russian. It is mainly in English and Mandarin though.
I hope this persuades you to buy the HK version (or better yet, the VCD version) over the American version. |
