| Let's establish Black Angel as a girl with guns flick. For those that highly praise Gonin and director Takashi Ishii you will definitely love this film. For those who saw Gonin, but aren't particularly Ishii fans will enjoy Black Angel much more. Black Angel's plot is far easier to follow than Gonin's. The beginning might seem a bit confusing but read the back cover or [the synopsis at HKFlix.com] and you'll be fine. The violence isn't as over the top as I expected but quite good still with a lot of slow motion. Another minor complaint is that the way Ikko handles her gun is a bit to casual, but not so that the action scenes are lame what so ever. Also the sidekick is to minor and should have been given more importance, and a gun. The escalator scene is great, and the unfolding ending is quite shocking. Definitely not such a down-beat ending that seems to prevail in so many Asian Action films. Over all it's a cool, dark, stylish, entertaining film that I recommend highly to fans of Asian action freaks in need of a twist in their viewing. |
