Hong Kong sex comedies are always fun to watch. No matter how much skin is on display or how explicit the sex scenes are, Hong Kong sex comedies are always cute, funny, and surprisingly warm and sweet-natured. Sexy Soccer is a perfect example.

Rolando Lo (Matthew Ng Ting) is a down on his luck soccer coach whose team always seems to blow the big game. Just when it appears in their grasp, championships and prestige slip through their fingertips like warm butter. But that's the least of Rolando's problems; one day, he is cornered in a pool hall by some thugs whose boss is not too happy with all the money he's lost betting on Rolando's team.

The thugs shove Rolando down on a pool table and the boss threatens to shoot a ball between his eyes. Rolando begs for his life and tells the boss that he'll borrow money from a loan shark to repay him. They let Rolando go, but now he's going to be in debt to a loan shark!

At the blacktop soccer court, Rolando is pondering his predicament when a cute girl jogs by. Mesmerized (and aroused) by the way her body, er, jiggles while she jogs, Rolando gets a great idea - he'll put together an all-girl soccer team, one that will drive their male opponents to distraction - thus, they'll be unbeatable!

Rolando follows Nina (the jogger) to the ladies' room and asks her if she wants to join his team. She's less than interested. Later, at a bar, Rolando meets another girl. She has an unusual name - Pulls - which in Chinese sounds almost exactly like the Chinese word for a certain part of the female anatomy. Pulls has another problem - because of her ample breasts, no one takes her seriously. But it's her achingly cute smile and pouty expressions that really make her endearing and appealing. She agrees to join the team.

Later, Rolando and Pulls run into Nina on the soccer court and she agrees to join the team, too. Rolando recruits more players, which gives him the chance to enjoy some near hardcore sexual encounters with the ladies. His team complete, Rolando begins teaching them how to play soccer well - and how to distract their male opponents with their womanly charms and an occasional flash of flesh.

The girls call their team The Friendly Balls and win game after game. The prestige, endorsements, and money come rolling in. Finally, they make it to the championship game. Their opponents are The Miracles - a team with a female captain that Rolando's male team could never beat. Rolando hatches a plan to get the Miracles' captain drunk and seduce her into revealing her team's secrets. But the plan backfires - Rolando gets drunk first and reveals his team's secret - using their charms to distract male opponents. So, the Miracles' captain replaces her regular players with a team full of gay men!

Can the Friendly Balls find a way to win? You'll have to watch and find out! I really enjoyed this movie. As in almost all Hong Kong sex comedies, the women are more than just eye candy, more than sex objects. The girls' characters are well developed and there are many touching moments, especially the reconciliation of the feuding twin sisters on the team.

The Last Word: Sexy Soccer is a delightful sex comedy from Hong Kong that provides a funny and touching story in addition to skin and sex. It's much better and a lot less smuttier than Hollywood sex comedies like American Pie. Well worth a watch - and a purchase!

Actually, a lot of the comedy in the movie is pretty funny in a dopey Russ Meyer kind of way. Sexy Soccer definitely qualifies as "so bad it's good" material. Whether it's the ultra-cheap sets or horrible acting, if you like "Mystery Science Theatre 3000" material and have about two cases of beer handy, you can't go wrong with a viewing of Sexy Soccer.

As for the sex scenes, they're really nothing all that special. It's just your standard stuff of naked people acting (badly) like they're doing the horizontal mambo. Disappointingly, the film's cover girls (who have very big breasts that get referred to about every five seconds) never show their goods. At all. Not even a quick nipple shot. Still, there's more than enough T&A here to keep fans of this type of "clean" smut happy.
