Fantastic black magic flick. Too often this gets unduly compared to later films like "Ringu" which are ghost stories while this is more akin to a slasher film. The film has a distinctly Japanese air about it, almost from the beginning, with perverted teachers and transfer students bringing nothing but death and destruction with them. Once the movie starts into the second act with the students trapped and a supernatural killer on the loose, it does take more cues from a slasher movie but with a twist that the killer uses magic to dispatch his victims. I really liked the number on the blackboard counting down as each person is killed. The ending might be a little telegraphed for those paying attention, but it doesn't detract from the film, it's simply too much fun. While not always scary, the movie is always fun and definitely worth checking out. |
