Overview:	The film is based on the experiences of Kim Son-myong, a communist who was captured by United Nations troops and sent to a South Korean prison in 1951 at the age of 25. Subject to torture and beatings, Kim and his fellow prisoners are later promised to be set free if they disavow their political beliefs. But rather than sign the paper that would have give them freedom, Kim refuses and stays a political prisoner. In doing so, Kim makes his life a meditation on what freedom truly means.
