URGENT NOTE: A lot of people have asked us about differences between the Crash Cinema and Taiwanese versions of the Samurai Trilogy DVDs. The Crash version is a bit blurry and has oversaturated yellows. The subtitles are also a bit blurry and are non-removable. The Taiwan version has a much sharper picture and more muted, controlled color tones. The subtitles are player-generated so they are much crisper and are also removable. On the plus side for the Crash version, the credits are subtitled and there is an 18-minute documentary on the making of a traditional Japanese sword. If you're on a tight budget, the Crash version is an excellent value. Otherwise we have to recommend the Taiwanese DVDs.
This classic trilogy, loved the world over, traces the life of Takezo (Toshiro Mifune) as it finds him traveling the globe as a samurai. A must for fans of Akira Kurosawa and Toshiro Mifune.
Overview:
"Duel At Ichijoji Temple" brings the education of Musashi Miyamoto to maturity. At first, a contemptuous wanderer whose only interest is to prove his prowess against the best of Japan has to offer, he is brought to understand that mastery of the sword is mastery of the self. Along the way, he moves from casually committing slaughter to adopting a more compassionate and merciful view of his fellow warriors.
