While this isn't a remake of "Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan", it does follow all the same road signs on its journey. This is less about revenge and more about romantic drama, and without anybody stuffing their hands into people's bodies like the original. Expertly handled by Chor Yuan but with a simpler story than his usual affair of twisting turning plots with an array of wild characters, this one is pretty straightforward. It does have plenty of sex but it doesn't ever really feel sleazy--probably the soft focus and all the white--but you don't get that dirty grindhouse feel to it. While the movie is good, it isn't as good as "Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan" but still worth the watch if you are in the mood for something in the same vein as it. |
