| I was lucky enough to see this film's East Coast theatrical premiere at the 13th Philadelphia film festival. But the lucky part of it was that I was attending the event as press, so I didn't pay to see this dreadful excuse for a film.
It started off promising, with an accident at an amusement park, but quickly went down hill from there. It then flashes forward to a young woman and her stupid and annoying friends searching for her missing brother, a reporter who disappeared there. There's also a grotesquely deformed man (for real) and his ghostly child skulking about. But despite many opportunities for greatness, the film fails miserably. Old school kung fu queen Kara Hui Ying Hung is on hand playing a psychic in touch with the undead, but she's given little to do. There are some spooky images, like creepy clowns hanging from trees, but they're totally wasted too.
[Note: The following section refers to the HK DVD from Universe.] As for the attraction of the 3-D, it's just a few scenes scattered throughout the movie, and only amounts to about ten minutes of the running time. AND, the 3-D sucked! When I saw JAWS 3-D over twenty years ago, the 3-D was so much better (so much for advances in modern technology). The only thing I thought really looked "3-D", was the subtitles!
The only thing that made the experience the least bit enjoyable, was sharing the groans and laughs (at the FILM, not the film's content) with the audience. I can hardly believe that the director of INFERNAL AFFAIRS, a wonderful film, could be responsible for this crap. I recommend you avoid this film at all costs. |
