| There are "extended editions" of this film out there, but unfortunately they are very hard to find and are most likely out of print. The Hong Kong version and the American version of this film are pretty much the only versions available (and they are the exact same film). Although the American version does not contain a "making of" featurette, it has 15 deleted/extended/alternate scenes. Some of these deleted scenes include an extended fight between Eddie and Snakehead's men at near the end of the movie, and an alternate scene of Eddie saving Nicole when Snakehead throws her over. You also see a deleted scene containing a special power the medallion gave Eddie of what he could do with coffee (no spoilers though). The deleted scenes contain what was cut out of the film's "original" version.
This version of the movie also contains badly done and unnecessary voice overs and dubs. All of the Cantonese in the film was dubbed into English (at least in the American version). It would have been nice if they just reshot the scenes instead of dubbing. The American version also contains full length audio commentary by the film's producer and editor. They explain what was cut and why, and where some of the scenes were shot and how they were done.
I recommend getting both versions of this film, the HK version for the "making of" featurette, and the American Screen Gems/Columbia-Tristar version for the commentary and the deleted scenes. The commentary is very informative, and the deleted scenes contain interesting stuff. |
