A samurai film for the MTV generation. An all around great film that hits gold on every level with action and humor at every turn.

When a master swordsman steals a respected clan's ceremonial sword, a young man sets out to save the honor of his clan.

The swordplay in this film is a dream come true. Most films with realistic swordplay provide most of the action in a wide shot, but this film pulls you in. The creative edge of the film is the play with colors and patterns. The characters are as colorful as the film, while the rock soundtrack rolls everything together into a sushi roll of action and adventure.

If your only background to samurai films is Tom Cruse, I would suggest you look for an easer title to start with. But if you enjoy anime, then this film will fit right in with your DVD collection.

NI dislike anime and MTV so maybe I am not the target demographic for this movie, but I found the constant pop references annoying. I also thought that the swordplay was pretty clunky and gimmicky.TheDenizen

This is a good ol' samurai parody/satirical movie. The storyline is nothing complex but the pacing is done rather well and keeps you entertained throughout the whole movie. Clearly shows the virtues of honor, respect, love, avoiding killing, and redemption. The only real flaw I can find is developing more of Kazamatsuri's reasoning behind stealing the sword. Granted he does explain his reasons, but I just didn't feel as compelled to sympathize his reasons. It is shot rather well, blending elements of color, black and white, and a red screen. Fans of the chambara/jidaigeki genre will like.

An okay samurai flick, obviously intended as a kind of stylized 60's jidai geki with modern touches. Obsessed with trying to be "cool", the film's constant self-awareness is somewhat annoying. Everyone seems to spend so much time standing around going "look at me, I'm in a samurai movie, I'm cool" that not enough good stuff actually happens. *shrugs*

This is a funny but respectful film. Mostly for fans of samurai movie drama. In B&W to give it that 70's feel. It is well made and easy to watch with stock type characters who are still very human.

"Samurai Fiction" is quite different from your normal samurai movies. If you've seen Takeshi's "Zatoichi", then you will most likely enjoy this great movie.

The film is enjoyable. It has good action, good music, and is simply very cool.

The story is of one lone samurai who steals a precious katana (sword) from his new overlord. The overlord's son (our main hero) goes on a quest to rescue it, however not knowing the strengh of his enemy.

The movie is in black and white, which actually plays well with this film.

Overall, all martial arts/samurai fans should own this.

I saw this movie three years ago on French TV, very late in the night after hard work at day, and only the last 30 minutes! But I remember it is an EXCELLENT movie. I bought the DVD (Korean Edition) a week ago and this time, I can recommend you this DVD. You will love the movie, you will love the soundtrack and all actors and actress are very excellent. And Tamaki Ogawa is a very very beautiful girl in her old Japanese kimono. In a word: buy this DVD ! Roland YOU (FRANCE)
