The works of Chen (Kuo-Fu) usually fall into two opposite catagories: one is psychoanalytical study of women, the other is thriller. In this second feature film, he tells the story of a naive young man being lead into the world of gangsters and violence by his hopeless obsession with vulnerable women. The concise, unconventional narrative style and dazzling cinematography paved his way to the international hit DOUBLE VISION some eight years later. Chen once said during an interview that his personal favorite subject is women's psychology. He, however, seems equally capable and comfortable with richly flavored actions. |
