To be honest, I actually enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would, simply because it's just a fun flick to watch. I've never been a fan of the twins but decided to give this movie a play since I was bored. It turns out it's not as horrible as 90% of their other films. From what I see, Hong Kong tried to make their own version of "Blade" but used two famous pop singers to drag in more money--I mean c'mon, they even got Donnie Yen to choregraph, who happened to work on "Blade 2" around that time period. Jackie Chan's guest appearance was also very welcome, and the minute that man steps in front of the camera, he stole the show, even though it was only a couple of minutes long. The story is nothing to be boasting about, since it's your typical must-kill-all-vampires thing with a lil' romance here and there. If you have free time to kill then this film isn't all that bad BUT DONT EVER, EVER, WATCH PART 2! You'll want your two hours of life back!

Don't hate, suckas. A lot of folks like to be rough on this flick even though it is highly entertaining. What's the deal? This flick delivers good action and a fantasy/supernatural element that incorporates some servicable special effects. Yeah, I know, we all want to shove Charlene Choi off those poles above the never ending abyss surrounding the special dagger in "The Golden Child". She is so annoying and those faces she makes can inspire the average person to launch a lamp into their television screen. But let's also think of the other half of the twins package. Gillian Chung is always a pleasure to see doing martial arts. She is not an actual martial artist though she displays a propensity toward flexibility, agility and overall athleticism. It probably doesn't hurt that she is also hot as sin. The action choreography was excellent, but then again you knew that. When has Donnie Yen failed you? That's right, he always brings the noise and the phunk. With Donnie co-directing you really get a chance to see the stuff you want to see. This was a very fun vampire slaying romp with a comic book/anime feel to it and I would recommend it to fans of "Blade", "Buffy", "Blood", "Underworld" and other places where killing vampires is just the thing to do. I got to go, this nun keeps staring at me. I should probably put some pants on.

NThe film does have it's moments. I understand this is suppose to be one of those "FUN" movies. Sadly I was not entertained.Black Belt Ninja

NHorrible movie- the acting was terrible, and the action was not that great. I agree with one reviewer saying this is old entertainment. This is a sad attempt to make something new with the Vampire element. This martial arts pic is weak.KingFu
YThis movie was entertaining and seeing Donnie Yen's choreography applied to the vampire element was far from old.Miho
NDidn't really enjoy this actioner. I know it's a popcorn film but I found it lacking in action & story. & by the time the movie came out the whole Vampire element is old entertainment.JV47842

When I purchased this title, I've already read earlier reviews noting how annoying one of the lead girls can be.

After watching the movie, I wholeheartedly agree, but I still say the movie is a lot of fun to watch, with a mix of humor, martial arts, and horror.

Buy the film for the twins alone, 'cause they are so hot. I am always wondering, how could they move so fast? She moves a lot faster than all those so-called kung fu experts!

NYou claim Secret Rivals was not real kung fu and gave it zero stars, yet you give the junk five stars. As for how she moves so fast, I guess you are unaware of movie technology that can speed up onscreen movement. The twins have zero kung fu skill.MS10197

Why I bother? This movie to make it in the American market? It might have a better chance in the night market. And just when the HK movies industry; with shows like Infernal Affairs and Colour Of the Truth; is starting to show signs of greatness. Then comes along this "Cringe" Effect. Singers (even supposedly veterans like Ekin) should stick to singing not acting. The plot was ridiculous and stupid, even the dialogue is bad. The acting was dull and uninspired. The only saving grace (and the reason I gave it one star) was dear old Jackie's cameo role. He stole the thunder from all the other 'actors' combined. Take my word for it. Do not come anywhere within 10 feet of this piece of garbage.

This is one of those sequel to HK drama 'I have a date with the Vampire' movie version. The only reason that makes me complete watching the show is to see Charlene Choi's spit-fire and surprisingly strong character playing with handsome Prince Edison Chen. The latter is pathetic though he looks every inch the prince. Ekin Cheng as usual sweeps his hair in and out of the room, exerting hard to stay cool as the brashy twins dash in and out to steal all attention. Overall a highly entertaining and trashy movie for those who want to watch lots of mindless kicking, twisting and air-boxing.

Basically, this is the era of sassy girls like Charlene Choi, following the success of My Sassy Girl that propelled Jeon Ji Hyun to international stardom. The next sassy princess would have to be Charlene Choi, who is every essence of sass. Sad to say, her counterpart Gillian Chung belongs to the long gone era of sweet whiny girls of the Vivian Choi and Athena Chu's genre.

Thumbs up for girl power!

Ouch! Well it's official. The Golden Age of Hong Kong Cinema has finally come to an end. I strongly believe there's nothing solid left in HK Cinema after seeing this movie.

It's evident that Ekin Cheng is a contraversal martial arts actor. Can he really fight? I personally think he did a good job in this film with the help of Donnie Yen's choreography. But the Twins on the other hand. I cringe everytime I think about it. Charlene Choi attempts to be cute but ends up annoying. As for Gillian Chung...well, I can't say anything bad about her considering I have a crush on her.

This movie was a crapfest of crap. The special effects were the best thing about this movie; if that tells you anything.

This movie came out earlier this year patterned after the Hollywood type summer movie. Keen special effects and a star studded cast raised hopes of a sure fire winner. It's too bad they didn't take time to figure out what type of movie they were going to make. There's lots of good stuff here to like, it just feels uneven.

Take for example the vampires. When you make a movie that involves something that doesn't exist in real life or is not experienced or seen by most viewers, a filmmaker should be careful to fill in the blanks with rules that govern this particular thing's existence. Vampires in western movies cannot be seen in mirrors, burn in direct sunlight, hate crucifixes, etc. Vampires in Hong Kong films tend to hop instead of walk, Taoist priests are their hunters, they see a person by their breath, etc. The vampires in this movie tend to mix, discard, and create new rules seemingly at their whim. What seems to hold one vampire, later in the movie, may not hold to another. It gets a bit frustrating.

This experience extends to other areas of the film where events occur and you aren't sure how to react. Should I laugh, gasp, smile, cry, or what? It seems a bit forced to me. Like they are trying a little too hard. I think this may stem from this possibly being one big commercial for Emperor Media Group's recording artists. Strangely enough, this movie was made by EMG and starred musical artist that they publish (Jackie Chan, Edison Chan, Ekin Cheng, the Twins, Karen Mok etc.) Hmmmm...

There are good things to say about this film. The cast for one. It was really fun watching Jackie Chan and Karen Mok getting married. Jackie is in this film a bit more than the term "cameo" justifies. I found all of the cast pretty likeable. I even found myself liking the twins of the title, Gillian Chung and Charlene Choi. They are a singing duo (called "Twins" oddly enough) that's hot right now. They're cute but not annoyingly so, and they are actually funny at times. Also, there's some pretty good fight scenes choreographed by Donnie Yen. Some of it relies too much on wirework though.

Thank goodness I got a chance to rent this movie before buying into the the "HKFlix Recommends" label. I have never fallen asleep watching Chinese movies, but the very least I can say about this movie is that I found myself halfway through the movie yelling at it to end already.

The movie plot could have gone very far, but it didn't. Watching this movie felt like the HK movie producer decided to just throw on stage a couple of teen idols, tell them to say a few lines and do a few things, just to squeeze a few bucks out of my pockets. I've seen Nicholas Tse in better movies, and Ekin still can't act (with the exceptions of "Legend of Speed 2" & "Storm Riders"). The "Twins" are just way overhyped. The little side story of love in here is just so bland and seemed to be made only for the purpose of adding extra length to the movie, which I might add, could have been fairly short.

If you want a sword-swinging-in-modern-times flick, go with "Princess Blade". "Twins Effect" is just overhyped teen idols milking school girls' money. I'm giving this movie 1 star [out of 5] because for the brief few minutes of this long, long boring movie, there were nice fight choreography from Donnie Yen.
