| The film takes place in Yokohama. The year is 2346. Humans co-habit the Earth with androids and are forced to follow the oppressive laws mandated by Woo (Richard Cheung), the gay Chinese leader of this dictatorial world. After passing a law that makes mandatory the use of a birth control drug, those committed to return Yokohama to the heterosexual ways of the "old world" decide to form a group of rebels to fight Woo and his government agents.
If you're a fan of Takashi Miike, you know what to expect: A ridiculous plot with crazy violence, sex, and drugs, but also a frantic and unique visual style that somehow transcends the pulpy story.
If you've never seen a Miike film, and are easily offended by gratuitous paganism, this is probably not a movie you'll enjoy. However, should you enjoy celluloid insanity and tongue-in-cheek weirdness, you'll probably want to watch this orgy of over-the-top flamboyancy. |
