Think...

I don't care whether anyone understood this film, I don't even really care that I understood this film. Nor that it was, to quote, `a waste of three hours' or a postmodernist, existentialist comment by David Lynch (as so many aspiring cinematic philosophers have pointed out on [the IMDb] website).

The fact remains, in a cinematic world where so many films (some critically acclaimed) require you to ‘check your brains at the door'; Mulholland Drive is a breath of fresh air.

Lost Highway (1997), and now Mulholland Dr. have both really disappointed and impressed me. Although I think Lynch has been doing way too much cocaine lately, like a traffic accident I still can’t turn away. The movie is pretensious, de-constructive and plot-less. I wouldn’t go to work, and tell my co-workers about a dream that I SORT OF REMEMBER, so I question why would anyone make a movie about it. Surreal uneven images and symbols throughout the film that only Lynch alone could ever understand. I’m sure many cappichino sipping art-fags will come up with some sort of message or meaning to this film, only because they don’t want to be jeered at by others and feel that they need to look cool. Good for you!!!, however my guess is there is none. I won’t bother trying to pass off my interpretation of the movie to you, all that I can say is “...What the hell was that about anyways!!!...”, and “...Huh!!!...” If you are looking for a plot, story or any kind of logical narrative, this is not the film for you. Lynch does however use music, mood and camera angles to paint a picture like no other director can. Treat this film as weird, for the sake of being weird, and this could be a great break from your usual Ball-buster viewing experience, otherwise stay far away.
