TECH NOTES:
Digitally restored print looks very good, although the contrast is slightly low. The original Mandarin audio track has also been restored and the musical soundtrack sounds good except for one song that sounds hollow. The dialogue is more muffled. Extras include the film's original trailer, a new trailer, and trailers for The Warlord, Love in a Fallen City, The Heroic Ones, and Hong Kong Nocturne. There are also very good, exclusive English language interviews with Chang Pei Pei, daughter Marsha Yuen, critic Paul Fonoroff, and martial arts film expert Bey Logan, as well as a Cantonese language interview with Yueh Hua. The disc contains a poor collection of stills, poster art, useless production notes, and very good profiles of Cheng Pei Pei, Yueh Hua, and director King Hu. An audio commentary with film expert Bey Logan, Cheng Pei Pei, and Marsha Yuen is entertaining and insightful, but the unbalanced volume levels on the microphones are annoying initially. |
