A troubled romance set against the backdrop of the politically-inspired riots that swept HK in 1967. The central couple are neighbors in a Kowloon City tenement. Just as they begin to realize how much they need each other, the riots tear them apart.
Overview:
Maggie Cheung plays an actress who shares an apartment building with Kenny Bee. They meet one day when she walks in on him in the toilet, and an odd sort of relationship begins.
Although their lives are unfolding along radically different trajectories, an upwardly mobile movie starlet and an earthy taxi driver (Kenny Bee) fall deeply in love and try to maintain their relationship amidst the anti-colonial unrest of 1960s Hong Kong.
An interesting romantic-comedy between a gorgeous social climber with no scruples (MAGGIE CHEUNG) and a "get nowhere" attitude cabby (KENNY BEE). This sensitive drama mixes lighthearted comedy, but manages to generate real suspense at the end, before moving to a searing climax. Winner Best Actress (MAGGIE CHEUNG), 1989 Hong Kong Film Awards.
I - Suitable for all audiences (roughly equal to an MPPA rating of "G" or "PG") Films rated Category I contain nothing most parents will consider offensive for their children to see or hear. Nudity, drug use, explicit language, violence and adult situations are largely absent, and if present are seen only briefly and at a moderate level.
