Director Ricky Lau made the first Mr. Vampire film in 1985; three sequels appeared in successive years from 1986 to 1988. He has struggled to break out of the horror genre in recent years with action films such as Raging Angels and Super Car Criminals, as well as the dramas Life in Last Hour and The Temptation of Office Ladies.
