Li (Maggie Cheung) is granted a student visa to travel to the United States. Her estranged husband, Zhou (Tony Leung), has smuggles himself into New York City and begins a desperate search for Li, tracing her footsteps throught he city one at a time.
Overview:
Spring, 1988. Despite several rejections from the American Consulate, and a year after her first child was born, Li was finally granted a student visa to travel to the United States. A year later, Li sent back a letter to Zhou, asking for an immediate divorce. Zhou has smuggled into New York City, desperate for find Li, but to no avail. With the help of Jane, a 15-year-old Chinese American he befriended, Zhou begins seeking out the people who once knew Li. The journey brings them into a subterranean world once inhabited by Li and countless new immigrants; yet her whereabouts remain a mystery...
