| This snake-themed set contains four movies on two discs with serpents galore! The films themselves are each very different from each other and vary in terms of their content and quality, from both a cinematic and technical transfer point of view.
Three of the films are in color. The worst picture quality is exhibited by an old B&W British film that plays a bit like Sherlock Holmes' "The Reptile Of The Baskervilles"--it has an interesting plot line but doesn't really deliver much in the way of shocks.
There is an old Boris Karloff movie replete with snake-wielding zombies on an isolated tropical island that is pretty interesting.
The third flick is a made-for-TV submarine drama that adds a basketful of poisonous vipers to the problems faced by the crew as they are trapped in an underwater canyon--it moves along pretty well.
The fourth movie is actually one of the "Black Emmanuelle" series starring Laura Gemser and Jack Palance (playing a reclusive snake collector) and helmed by Joe D'Amato. This film is titled "Black Cobra". It was apparently re-released under a different title when the "Black Emmanuelle" series took off. Typical of the series, this film features a lot of skin and softcore sex (the only one of the four discs with any nudity), which does much to make it watchable.
At the low price, this set is a pretty good deal, even though none of the flicks are very exceptional on their own. |
