Dekalog was shot for Polish TV, which is on the PAL system. When films are shot for PAL presentation, they are usually filmed at 25 frames per second (as opposed to the theatrical standard of 24 frames per second). When films shot for NTSC presentation are shown on a PAL system, they are usually run at the higher frame rate, thus the well-known "PAL speed-up."

The infinity version of DEKALOG is longer because of the opposite effect of running a 25fps film at 24fps, what might be called the "NTSC slow-down." There are quite apparent differences in image quality between the FACETS edition availabe in the U.S. and the Infinity edition offered here. There is no difference in the contents, however.

For a more detailed comparison of all the editions, you can go to: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare2/decalogue.htm which also has image captures.
