| Overview: | This film is based on the real life kidnapping spree of Cheung Tze-Keung who was eventually executed in China December of 1998.
Cheung Chi-ho (Simon Yam) makes a living by kidnapping the children of very rich people. However, he tries to be a nice guy, which is fairly amusing. The film starts with Cheung Chi-ho helping an old lady and telling children not to play football in the street.
Fast-forward a few minutes. Cheung Chi-ho is plotting the kidnapping of the first of two tycoon's sons. Neither case is reported to the cops, and all goes well, until Cheung teams up with another big-time criminal, Cyclone. On their next job, the rich victim calls the cops, and Cheung Chi-ho must strategize his next move against the police.
This is a very interesting and enjoyable film because it manages to take a true story and build a convincing film based on it. The movie paints a very nice portrait of the Cheung Chi-ho. He refuses to kill, he looks out for his men, and abides by gangster's codes. He even feeds his hostages abalone. At one point, Cheung says that he's no more a thief than Hong Kong's richest man; he just uses differen means. The film is successfully conveys this perception of Cheung. Cyclone, on the other hand, is portrayed as your typical, nasty criminal.
