Firstly, let me just say that this film has a cool cover, and the main charachter, Fun Li has really cool hair. Aside from this, the movie is a total and utter waste of time. He can not fly, and he uses throwing daggers not a sword. I watched this movie hoping for a storm rider like approach to this story, but no, it is a boring, dis jointed film that I have ever seen. | | | | | Fun Li (Wong Git) is continuously drunk, even on his wedding day much to his father's (Sonny Chiba) disapproval. Fun's wife (Gigi Lai) is unhappy. Her husband is a drunkard and her father-in-law is cruel to her. Fun finally vows to never drink again and sets off on a mission for his father's security company but tragedy and misfortune ensues... Sonny Chiba has a similar look to his Stormriders character and he is great is the role of Fun's strict father. Wong Git looks cool with his head of black hair with long strips of white at the ends and a white pony tail . I enjoyed the story, the costumes, the characters and the overall atmosphere of the film. | Now if you think this movie is going to be a sword fighting movie with lots of blood, DON'T look this way! There is only ONE fight scene in this movie!! It really is a drama. I know the title gives you a feeling this is going to be something that it isn't!! I even think the one fight scene was a mere formality to what the movie is really about! There are many levels to this movie. It's about a strain family relationship. It is about escape-ism from reality via alcohol. It is about love. In all these, i think it achieves its purpose! The camerawork done on this film is excellent! I cannot emphasis it enough! It is very creative and great to watch! All actors do their roles, especially Sonny Chiba as a proud, controlling father. The one action scene is ok. It's a bit too fast to know what's happening and the way the fight ends is like it was from DRAGONBALL or something!! I am not sure how the guy even gets hurt! The way the movie also unfolds is good. It is not till the end you fully know what is going on! If your looking for a sword fighting movie, you'll be really disappointed, but if your looking for a good drama, come here! |
