Overview:Despite its title, "A Fighter's Blues" is not so much a story about fighting as it is about relationships and it brings to mind an earlier film of similar design called 'Ah Long', starring Chow Yun Fat. Both films are more about the characters involved than about the sport they are centered around.

A Fighter's Blues (Ah Fu) tells the story of Mong Fu, after 14 years in jail, he is released after brutally beating a fellow boxer to death. Pim, who he had fallen in love with before going to prison, has passed away, but Fu is learns that he has a daughter by her. In search of her, he comes to a orphanage set up by sister Mioko. Through some predictable bonding processes, Fu and his daughter, Ploy, learn to cope with one another, as does Mioko, who grows fond of Fu. But the past confronts Fu, and he doesn't know whether to fulfill his support for his daughter and his nurture his growing fondness for Mioko or continuing what he left behind in the ring.

Of course being a film about boxing, the climax of the film leads to a final fight scene with the current Muy-Thai boxing champ.

Overall, this film boasts a very good story with well-staged (and somewhat brutal) fight sequences. There is also a strong theme of romance and redemption, which help distinguish it from films of similar story lines.
