Beside the immaculate pairing up of the male and female leads, Tina Lau and Ricky Hui, strangely enough, produce comic sparkles aplenty. Not to mention Li Siu-kei who plays Wyman Wong's father. The class barriers in a romance turn out to be the makings of the parties involved. There are no bad people or rivals. The film is particularly outstanding in portraying parental concern and understanding. The course of the romance is however shoddy, concentrating entirely on familial/class characteristics. | | | | | Joe Ma puts down the psychological baggage of pleasing young audiences at all costs, and quits making calculations about pumping his films with out-of-place teenspeak and identification with material comforts, and the result is a film that is more responsible to the filmmaker's own emotional universe. A continuous string of realistic memories of love relationships propels the film's narrative.
