| Well, let me start off with a heap of praise for Qin Hailu...I can see why the Central Drama Academy accpeted her as a student. She has grown as an actress since the filimg of "Durian Durain." (But I also blame that film's sucky results on the director...but I digress).
As for the story, this is defintiely a "date film" and has the right elements for a Chinese audience, and probably an international audience. It doesn't really make any serious social stands, but it does have heart.
I was surprised by the lead actor. When I living over in China, especially in guangzhou, I had considered Chen as a "Creamy Boy/Pretty Boy" kind of actor. But I think he did a great job here...espcially when his character really falls ill or with the scenes with the children in the hospital.
My only complaint is that mainland-Chinese-prostitute-trying-to-make-it-big-in-Hong-Kong bit. I find it tiresome...sure there are many mainland girls working in HK as prostitures, but c'mon, isn't this overkill? |
