 | | | | "Stunt Woman" (aka "Ah Kam") quickly tells us, by the opening music track and scenes, that this film is a behind the scenes look at Hong Kong moviemaking. The film, starring Michelle Yeoh and Sammo Hung, is a gritty, realistic examination of the life of stunt men and women in the Hong Kong film industry.
The film is short on action sequences, even though Tony Ching is in charge of the fight choreography. Due to an injury to Michelle Yeoh during filming, director Ann Hui had to adjust the script a bit, and I believe it hurt the flow of the film. This film is only for the true Hong Kong cinema junkie. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | For fans of Michelle Yeoh this is a must-see title. Now don't expect an action movie, it's more of a drama. But it does offer a look behind the scenes of Hong Kong filmmaking and strong performances from the cast. A not entirely accurate look, but entertaining none-the-less. Michelle does get to do some cool action, but these scenes are brief. Sammo Hung practically plays himself, as a hard drinking film director that takes the young stuntwoman under his chubby, yet capable wing. Though the story had huge potential, the film doesn't quite live up to it. The story is disjointed, and cliches abound, but through it all... there's Michelle shining brightly. As a regular viewer, I would rate the film a 3.0 [out of 5]. But if you're a fan of Miss Yeoh, it jumps right up to a 4.0. | | AGREE? | READER COMMENTS | AUTHOR | | Y | Great acting by Michelle, but the production value on the film was uder par compared to her other work | Little Dragon Fan |
