I was hoping that this film would be in the vein of AZUMI, but it was not. It was too dark, too futuristic, and it tried to blend the past with the future, which did not work. If you're looking for something similar to AZUMI, this is not it. Get AZUMI 2 instead.

The fight scenes are cool but I didn't like the ending.

Saw this awhile back ago and I was hyped to see it being that Donnie Yen was the choreography. It was a bit of a let down there's not a whole lot of fighting in it most of it is sword play which isn't bad but there's only one good scene that takes place near the middle that's worth watching it.

Choreography is nothing new you see a lot of the same moves they could have mixed it up more.

The story itself was alright but the ending wasn't great I didn't know why they would end it like that. Makes you think that's the best ending they could come up with? It doesn't even end like an ending should. I would have rated it higher if the ending was better.

Good transfer on to the DVD all the colors look well like a DVD should. They got some great camera work like at the start of the film just the tone of light that was used. Also the settings that were filmed mix well with the movie there's a few different locations that look nice.

Id rent this before buying should be easy to spot a most rental stores. The choreography could have been worked on more and with a better ending it this could have been a better movie.

I've seen lot of Donnie Yen flicks this is one of his weaker films that he's worked on but not his worst.

I was tremendously disappointed with this film. I hired it with high expectations because Donnie Yen was the fight choreographer. I listened to his commentary of the fight scenes with great interest.

As he says himself, the actress was in her first role and not a martial artist, and it shows. She is enthusiastic but little more than that. Perhaps Yen's choreography was limited by that, but it also seems that he is repeating himself with certain formations and "signature moves", and after the movie was over I was left feeling empty and unsatisfied.

It is beautifully shot, however, and there are some good ideas. It's just a pity they didn't have a better actress in the lead role. I would recommend seeing Legend of the Wolf instead - you get the same choreography style but much better execution of same.

...Don't waste your money like me on a crappy movie like this again! There are so many movies with much better acting, story, and action than this rubbish. Take my advice, if you are looking for a movie with cute girls, lots of blood and a interesting storyline, get – “Azumi”! You will thank me for that!

Everything about this movie was terrible. Not even worth a rental. The story was bad. The acting was bad. The action was bad.

One of the better martial arts action films I've ever seen. And when the action stops, the acting is strong enough to keep you interested. With remarkable cinematography, well paced editing and unnoticable wirework, this is a movie that anyone who likes well designed action should enjoy. If only it was available in North America.

Overall it was a nice movie. The choreography that Donnie Yen did was first class, loved it. The movie could have had more fights in it to make it more exciting, but I loved it a lot and it's one NOT to be missed.

This is a hell of a martial arts movie I didn't see for years! All great acting with superb choregraphy combined with beautiful sceneries filmed in natural settings. Behind the bloody swordfights there is a poetry typical of the Japanese chambara. If you love action, martial arts and lethal romance, I recommand this movie and you won't be disappointed!

Hong Kong-style Swordplay meets Japanese visuals. This movie is just great. It has all you would ever want from an action movie. Plot isn't very original, but it really doesn't matter because the movie is simply great.

I was amazed by the visual style of the movie. Every frame seems to be lika a painting.

Donnie Yen's action choreography is awesome and the action scenes are very beautiful in every way.

This movie is one of the best action movies I've seen (and I've seen A LOT of action movies) and it means that it really is great movie, with great actors and great music (Kenji Kawai).

I recently saw this movie at a film festival and I was so excited to see a combo of Donnie Yen's awesome action choreography with a Samurai movie. The only thing that stopped me from leaving the theater 45 mins into the movie, was two overweight dudes blocking my way to the isle. Donnie Yen's choreography was good but the camera was to busy trying to give artsy views of the shot so you don't even get its full potential and left confused and wondering "why is this person laying on the ground?" It probably would have been ok if the director would have had the excuse of spending more time on the plot. But while the story was pretty straight forward and had potential to be pretty damn good. Once again the viewer is let down with a slow paced movie and bad directing of actors that had (again) potential to do so much more. The main character was supposed to be this super assassin, but once she is in a fight she is constantly being over powered by every one. Maybe I just built this movie up too much, but I still can justify recommending this movie. I still think that the formula was good (Samurai movie with Hong Kong action) but next time the need to keep the art house crap out of the movie and let an experienced Hong Kong camera man work the directing of photography. But that's just my opinion.
