Overview:An incredible story about a Jesuit priest (Jeremy Irons) who travels to Brazil to establish a mission and convert the natives to Catholicism. Once there, he encounters a slave trader, Mendoza (Robert De Niro) and eventually befriends and converts him to the point where Mendoza gives up his old ways and wants to become a priest himself. However, once the mission has become successful and things seem to be going well for all, the men learn that their land has been sold to Portugal by their church. They must now find a way to defend the mission they've built against the new rightful landownders, while preserving the wishes of the church and the beliefs of their religion.
