| Imagine John Wooh meets Sam Peckinpah, this would probably be the result. A frenetic hour plus of murder and mayhem not seen since Tarrantino's early work. This film set in the south of England explores the relationship between two drug barons and how they settle their differences.
Amidst the gun battles and violence there is one rather tepid sex scene. I particularly liked the way that the rival drug lord was executed on his own lawn with his family in attendance, here was a scene with bite and ruthlessness rarely seen in main stream cinema.
Rendell as Walker plays his part with panache but I could not help but think at times his delivery was a little mechanical. Murphy who plays randall was badly miscast, and would have been far more effective in a teletubbies episode.Ranger who plays Jimmy does the role well with a nervous humour that seems to fit perfectly. Thorn plays Lennox a man with a past and in many ways Walkers nemesis in the movie. I was slightly disapointed that Lennox only appears in the last 40 minutes of the film but his ongoing battle with Walker and his acting more than makes up for it. David Warbeck in his last film playing Pike steals the film and is enjoyably over the top as a sadistic narcisist.
Follow this with a brilliant sountrack and title sequence and you have a film of great quality considering the resources at hand.
On the whole considering a limited budget and a production time of three years this is a brilliant effort with special effects and car chases on par with much more expensive movies made by mainstream studios. So when you need the speed and the blood you could do far worse than rent or buy this DVD.
Warbeck is brilliant, Ranger and Thorn are good. Special effects, car chases and explosions.
Some cast elements miscast. Sex scene very weak. Bad language over the top. |
