This movie was mediocre. Not my best choice of a Mantis Style movie. The fight scenes were good, but the story was a little slow. I didnt care for the final fight scene.

Lee Yi Min rarely disappoints me. But I feel that he kind of let me down with this one. No aspect of this movie offers anything new or extraordinary. The story, the action, the training scenes, the comedy. It's all been done, and done better.

The fights are fine. And Lee Yi Min looks good when showing his skills, as do most of the others involved. But it just feels somewhat generic, and more-of-the-same-ish.

Chang Yi delivers another white-haired master character, spouting off odd kung fu commandments, in which I found little rhyme or reason.

The movie does have its moments though. I guess Lee Yi Min's elaborate straw mantis contraption is sort of innovative, although it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. And the end fight, although far from mind blowing, is at least well executed.

So all in all, this one really failed to move me in any way, shape or form. But there's no accounting for taste. So maybe you should just check it out for yourself, if you haven't already.

Good film worth checking out. Cheng Yi, Li Yi-Min, mantis style action galore.

"The 7 Commandments..." is the perfect concoction of fighting styles, training, characters, comedy, and a decent plot. Total kung fu pleasure. (What a great price, by the way.)

I definitely want to commend this movie for a superb job displaying all styles, especially the mantis style. I'd put the mantis up against a lot of styles and believe it to hold its ground. With that being said, I enjoy watching Lee Yi Min display his wonderful skills. To me he is the grandfather of the comedic/serious kung fu acting style. I believe Jackie Chan patterned his style after him. But anyways, from top to bottom, I loved it: the plot, choreography; and the final scene was spectacular, delivering the heaven and sky technique with the mantis. It's a 5 in my book.

I'm really very disappointed in seeing Chang Yi in this flick, particularly because of the fact that he seemed totally unsophisticated. I think this must've been one of his earlier movies when he was just getting into the martial arts world, because he seemed so unpolished and without finesse.

He did better, more impressive movies in later years, such as "18 Jade Arhats", "Shaolin Mystagogue", "Shaolin Traitors" and so on. On the other hand, the guy playing the main character is so dumb looking. Who the hell is he ?!

Overall, this movie shouldn't have had even made it to the big screens, much less DVD... It's pathetic!

I always like Lee Yi Min. He's fun and has a nice Chinese style. His training sequences are always the weirdest though...Chang Yi is alright here in a mix of bad/good guy. Good mix of hand and kicks. Lung Fei does his usual stuff. Classic student/master story with a twist: the master is the killer of the student's father. Good fights. Fun to watch.

YI agree, this was just OK. Considering the talent of Li I Min, this to me is considered a disappointment.William Giordanella

Good old-school classic. Simple-to-follow plot, good storyline. Will remain in the classic kungfu collection.
