All of the series are unique in their own way, with the first two starring Shin Eun-Gyeong and the third with Shu Qi. I still like the first one the best, with its mix of comedy and action. Never a dull moment. Never a dull movie.

The first movie I saw from Korea. A good blend of humor, action and human emotion.

Shin, in order to please her dying sister, has to find a man to marry. But since she is in a gang, this leads to some humorous and fight-filled situations as she finds and weds a nerdy type. Shin tries to keep her two lifes seperate, but an incident with a rival gang leads the nerdy husband to take the rival gang down.

This is a terrifically entertaining action/comedy (about 40/60 of each) of a feral female gang sub-boss honor bound to marry at her dying sister's wish. Whatever could it mean that she is so much more beautiful as the tomboyish killer than the girly-girl bride?

Most of the action scenes are every bit as good as they are said to be, but the final sequence of the film is slightly abrupt. I think this film is rather more accessible than most Korean action flicks to audiences unaccustomed to Korean humor and graphic violence: it shouldn't scare anyone away before they realize how much Korean cinema has to offer.

This movie was much better than I thought it would be and is actually more goofy too. Just when you think things are going to get serious, something stupid happens and it becomes goofy, making you laugh because it was so unexpected. The characters are a very fun crew and it was a blast watching them.

i don't understand why people rate this film so high. It's a really below-average film. I did not enjoy it at all. Some of the humour is very boring, gives you a feeling of trying too hard. The action is very fake, leaving me unsatisfied. Not recommended. Watch the Korean film "200 Pounds Beauty" instaed!

NMS10197 and I are completely in agreement. It's better to watch a film with an open mind than to hate whatever is well-received.Jeffrey Frawley
NDo you use some sort of template to write your reviews? They are pretty much all the same. One would think after that much practice writing the same thing, you would become more comprehensible.MS10197

An excellent film worthy of a true martial arts sequel, not comedy sequel. As such a remake is in order! Grittty and realistic fights with just enough comedy to keep it from being preachy.

Another Korean comic/action gem. Add a little romance, blood-letting and melodrama, and you have "My Wife is a Gangster".

The story is about Cha, or Mantis, who is no. 2 in a criminal organization. When she finds her long-lost sister, who is dying, and who's dying wish is for Mantis to get marry. Her underlings have the task of finding a prospective husband. The fun begins. This is one of the very best Korean comedies. The fun never lets up, and there is plenty of action between the comic set pieces. The scenes with the beautician are a hoot!

Highly recommended!

The movie is really good... Prompted me to buy MWIAG 2 and the newly released 3 with Shu Qui. Great series! I imagine they will remake this in Hollywood! Won't be as good, but it still might be fun! Worth buying definitely!

Underrated by the critics. This film epitomizes the Korean new wave...a unique blend of screwball comedy, family drama, action, martial arts, and even a little bit of a musical element. More often than not it works....with the marital story underpinning all the other elements. The martial arts choreography is superb.

The only thing I can say about this movie is that it is GREAT. This was my first Korean movie and I have become a fan of Korean movies now.

It was funny and sweet (when her husband is in love with her). I recommend this to anyone at all...

I just saw it. The actress rocks. No "I'm a girl, you're guy, I'll be better than you" crap; just "I'm me, I'll [beeep] your [beep] off". She's like the "take it or leave it".

The film is simple, no complex story, no complex relations. It's just like the main character "i don't care about details, I rush". At least that's the impression it gave me. Why must you watch it? 'Cause it's simply the best Korean movie I ever saw for now: the great scenes are there, the deeper ones too. And what I found interesting is the inverted roles of the wife and the husband. I didn't see camera works or atmosphere ones neither. It just simple and it's great like that. Just don't think about it like a mere action film, it would be an insult for this great movie.

I was highly impressed by this movie. I had low expectations for it. But it was well worth my time and money. Everybody has heard the plot, I'm sure. So I won't tell more about it. But this movie is funny, with action and drama. Do not expect a Martial Arts fest. There are some fight scenes, but not like the trailer would lead a person to believe. The woman who plays the wife who is the ganster is pretty eventhough she is like a tomboy. I found this film to be fresh. It should be enjoyed by everyone. This is my third Korean movie to watch. I must say, I have not been disappointed. Highly reccomended!!!

I just watched the movie. It is a fantastic gangster comedy with a Korean characteristic which does not lose the tough gangster edge. I particularly like those beautiful knives the female lead uses in the fight scenes. Can anyone tell me where I can get them? :) The female lead is convincingly good as the tough lady gangster boss. MUST WATCH.

A very good, entertaining film. The comedic scenes are hilarious. There are a few fight sequences that are very good. The knife fight and the big fight near the end of the film remind me of some of the work in "THE MATRIX". Due to the nature of some of the fight scenes, this film is definitely not for "young" audiences. For everyone else, "My Wife is a Gangster" will make you laugh. The lesser characters not only play important roles but their roles develop to the point where you really want to see more of them (refer to Romeo, Romeo's sidekick, the "unfortunate" husband, Eun-Jin's right hand man...). A definite must-see (and must-have).

If this film were made in the US during Hollywood's golden years, the cast might've had James Cagney, William Bendix, and Bette Davis with either Jimmy Stewart or Henry Fonda thrown in for good measure. As it is, this film has a good cast that's more than able to walk the fine line between drama and comedy. A girl-named Eu-jin hasn't seen her older sister since they were little kids. One day, Eu-jin gets a call that reunites her with her older sister. She's in the hospital and she's dying ( from what, we don't know ). The dying sister asks a favor from Eu-jin who, so happy to see her sis, is eager to comply. "Anything", says Eu-jin, "Name it". The favor: Get married and raise a family. While this might seem a little daunting for some girls, it proves especially so for Eu-jin. Eu-jin is the number two or "Big Brother" for the local triad family. She's tough, ruthless, and a formidable martial artist (all this is seen in the first 15 minutes of the film). After a series of missteps, which reminds one of "My Fair Lady" or "Pretty Woman", Eu-jin finds a husband-a Sammo Hung-looking civil servant in his late 30's who has no clue about his bride's shady life. Eu-jin has to really work at getting the hang of the whole domestic-obedient wife routine while at the same time prevent a rival mob, led by a man named White Shark, from taking over her group. This is a funny film-especially in the scenes where Eu-jin is getting a makeover and learning how to snag a man. The wedding is a hoot as well. The legbreakers tell the boss that they "had to close down five clubs" to fill the church with pimps, hookers, and other assorted low life. The scenes between the hard edged, severe Eu-jin and her older new husband (there has to be a 12 year gap between them at the very most ) on their honeymoon and in dealing with day to day life is funny as well. Some of the funniest scenes are when she's trying to have a baby. Hubby had to deal with a wife who hid herself in the bathroom on their honeymoon and at one point promised to kill him if he ever touched her without permission; now his wife is having sex with him all over the place at various times and places with almost limitless endurance. These aren't little bouts of canoodling with any follow-up pillow talk-these are all night marathons. They're also tastefully, and humorously, done. What kept me from giving this film 5 stars is that the last 15-20 minutes are very violent and dramatic. Where we had some light drama throughout the film now turns hardcore. It sort of sours what has come before it but it manages to work its way to an interesting resolution with how hubby deals with his wife's line of work - which I won't spoil here. Also, the second disc, which contains a very generous helping of special features, does not have access to any English subtitles whatsoever but, since the scenes involved setting up the action and special effects as well as outtakes, you kind of got the idea what was going on anyway. Altogether this was a fun, if violent, movie. What I also liked was that the Eu-jin's crime family is also well drawn with their own little scenes to shine in. Also, the soundtrack really rocks. Think of the music used in the fight scenes for the first "Blade" movie and you get the idea. Also, there's some Korean hip-hop thrown in which sounds VERY cool. Definitely worth watching. Again and again.

Very good movie. Like "Attack The Gas Station", this movie is funny and entertaining. It's fantastic to see that more and more Korean movies have English subtitles, which mean we no longer get just the arty dramas or love stories, such as Christmas in August...If you like this, make sure you get Attack The Gas Station. That's even better.
