Comments: This is a wonderful movie. The video quality is superb and the story, simple yet engrossing. The animation sequences are well done. There are two watercolor-type sequences that bookend the film, a sketchbook that comes to life and a computer-animation sequence that was made by Wanee to communicate her feelings to Junah.

The audio is generally very quiet. I had to crank up my system (not good for me since I'm using a DVD drive, TV-out card and a 5.0 stereo which produces some noise at high volumes). I did jump though when something suddenly came out the rear speakers. The dialogue is fairly sparse and there's a bit of silence, but that silence is meaningful. The subtitles are quite good, with only a couple very minor complaints not worth getting into. Kevin Parent

DVD is film-sourced and 169 oar 185, with excellent shadow detail, almost perfect black level and wonderful colors. Zero edge enhancement! There's a problem though and that is that around every scene change the picture jumps up and down for about a second. And it's not just the film, the deleted scenes do the same thing. Very strange. I would given it 5/5 for pq if it wasn't for this pesky artifact. You do get used to it after a while though.

Though the sleeve indicates that this DVD is encoded for Region 3 only, it is actually All-Region.

Through subtitle translation or purposeful artistically made self awareness the fact that Wanee's half-brother is the product of an adulterous affair by her father is not readily made clear.
