I definitely enjoyed this Mainland production. This is a little-known classic that I'm glad I got my hands on.

Film has quite an epic feel at times. Swordplay throughout is top notch and the main character is perfect for the role--well acted. His reluctantly gained partner adds some comedy element. The plot--I was half guessing on my first version with no subtitles--is a little far fetched but sits with the warring factions of the era and their desire to defeat rival clans. That said, I really enjoyed the film, and it is one of those I keep pulling out to watch again. Recommended.

YExcellent mainland cast1MAFRK166
YThe acting by performers who are martial artists first and actors second is a very small flaw. The action choreography and very real abilities of the performers far outweigh the unexceptional script.Jeffrey Frawley

If you liked the "Shaolin Temple" series, you will like this too. Pure mainland kung fu movie like "Fist From Shaolin", my reasons to purchase more mainland martial arts movies. You will find all the cast of "Shaolin Temple": Gai Chun Wa, Yue Sing Wei, Hu Jian Qiang, Yu Hai, and a young Hung Yan Yan, too. I recommend it very highly.

I got confused with it, and all the armour looked the same both for goodies and baddies, and to boot I fell asleep during the movie. Not the best I have seen.

Great movie, great swordplay, and a really simple but good storyline. If you are a fan of swordplay movies, this is a must-have. You can't go wrong!!!

The film description says the director set out to make a movie to rival the grandeur of a Kurosawa film. Well, he got what he wanted. It really did feel like "Seven Samurai"; not the actual plot but the sense of epic historical background, the intruding sense of political turmoil, the feeling of people caught up in forces greater then themselves.

Still, this really is a kung fu flick, so expect some great fight choreography. What really carries the film though is the actual story. Yes, there is a real story here. The main character becoming blind, and then finally regaining his sight speaks to his spiritual development, and finding illumination at the very end. Why don't they make more movies like this? Damned good question.
