This film drops out some details from the book, for timesaving, etc, but I think still captures a very medieval atmosphere, filmed on location in Germany. Sean Connery is great, and so is the photography and music. It is a little Hollywood-detective, would have been more effective with a foreign-film feel, but it's still a hooker. The inquisition interrogation scene really "takes you back".
