| Wu Xia movie as screwball/cartoon-style comedy. If you don't like Chinese comedy, you'd best skip this. The fights are exciting, but cheap humor is the reason this was made.
Two bounty hunters, each with a teenage sidekick, are competing for the same targets. Since one team of hunters is male and the other team female, the competition has romantic overtones. (If you are fond of 1950s Batman comics in which Batman and Robin worked with Batwoman and Batgirl, I know you will enjoy this movie!)
As these two duos bumble through their contorted mating dances, three other couples join in the hijinx. Jacky Cheung and Maggie Cheung are wonderful as a thief sought by the bounty hunters and his feisty but devoted wife. In classic Wu Xia style, the plot leads all the players to a small country inn. Ng Man Tat plays the inn's owner, a former Shaolin Master now under the thumb of a dominant wife. The final couple are two libidinous Japanese demons (you can definitely say they fight "dirty").
If you enjoyed the Comedy/Wu Xia movies "Chinese Odyssey 2002" or "A Warrior's Tragedy", you'll love this one too. |

I was disappointed with this. It was confusing, strange, funny in parts, but I expected a much better movie overall. This is rare for me, but I don't want to watch this movie again.-Shmicked (see my profile) LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW!
Great film--although the comedy is corny--lots of non-stop action/swordplay/flying wire-fu, great cast.-J LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW!
| Let the wackiness and laughs begin! This charmingly funny movie has it all: flying wire acts, great sub titles, goofy characters, and a cast who you really can tell enjoy their roles! Chinese fantasies have such interesting and weird villains and this one is no different. There's a man who speaks like a woman and has this thing for wagging his tongue like a dog; there's a woman with gray eyes (very striking) who's is his companion and guess what---she speaks like a man! Add to this the ever present he-who-never-dies and his missing, severed hand joining forces with the good guys and you have enough laughs to keep your gut sore for days! If that's not enough then there's even a reference to 2 famous, real life actors! Sword play, misfortune, love potions, antics at the local inn---all these play havoc on two pairs of bounty hunters looking for nine tail fox and his sexy wife, number one thief cat. Maggie Cheung plays a great cat woman, Sharla Cheung-man is ever enjoyable as the wacky big bewitchment and Gloria Yip as her cute companion, little bewitchment. If you're ever curious about excellent, fantasy comedy, this is the movie to check out. He-who-never-dies hand gives this movie four fingers and one thumbs up! |

Bounty hunters Fung Ling (Leung Ka Fai) and his young pal (Jimmy Lin) partake in a whirlwind of swordfights and fu as they go hunting for Nine Tails Fox (Jackie Cheung), who grows long fox tails to bind his opponents; sly Big and Little Bewitchment (Cheung Man and her assistant) are also in the chase. But Fox is saved from certain capture by his screeching wife Number One Thief Flying Cat (Maggie Cheung, who really gets into her role) and her three martial arts maids. As the static electricity in the air from all the fighting dissipates, everybody discovers it's all a conspiracy by Dicky Lui. Frenetic wackiness.-Steve Spinali LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW!
A model example of a high-energy mo-lei-tau kung-fu comedy, this breezy film is really fun to watch. All actors seem to have a field day, especially Jacky Cheung who plays a master of "martial farts(!)". Best of all is a scene in which Cheung Man-Yuk uses a so-called "replay machine" to watch the events just passed in the form of classical Chinese drawings. She then proceeds to reprimand the man "inside the machine" for not having taken part in the action and saving her husband! While the film never reaches the same inspired heights of lunacy as DONG CHENG XI JU (THE EAGLE-SHOOTING HEROES), you will sit back and enjoy all these well-known actors making fools of themselves (and apparently having fun!). And Gloria Yip is just so cute and sweet here, you'll adore her. The subtitles are funny too, if unintentionally so.-Thomas Muething LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW!
