"Samurai Reincarnation" is the story of Shiro, a Christian leader whose followers where slaughtered by the government. When the dust has settled, only he was left. This is when he makes a deal with dead spirits floating between the realms of life and death. He would give them life for their own reasons and revenge. The only one that stands in their way of destroying the government and overthrowing the nation is Jubei, a lone samurai. Will Jubei be able to defeat Shiro and save the nation from the supernatural threat?

An exciting mix of horror and martial arts, with Sonny Chiba once again in the role of Yagyu Jubei (he played this role in Shogun's Samurai and on the Japanese TV show The Yagyuu Conspiracy).

My one quibble is that the film doesn't really explain how Shiro Amakusa suddenly came back to life. In another movie version of this story, Reborn From Hell, an evil wizard resurrects Shiro in a plot to overthrow the Shogun's goverument. In Samurai Reincarnation, Shiro just suddenly rises from the dead...well, because the script said so.

True, this is all just a fantasy, but I like my plots not have too many holes. Oh well, the film does a good job of maintaining a chilling atmosphere, it's well paced, and it ends with a shocking confrontation between Jubei and his father.
