I was not even able to finish this film, which bums me out completely. This is one of those movies were you hear so much hype about how wonderful it is but in the end it doesnt meet your expectations, not only that but it sucks! Major upset.

Three longtime friends support each other through various relationships before realizing who they truly love. Like most of this genre, this film has a strong start, but falters when the loose ends need to be tied up. However, high production values (the film does a good job of presenting an upscale image of Hong Kong), a strong performance by Sammi (she also gets to sing a few songs), and Eric's blend of goofy comic relief and sensitive acting (the same role he always plays, but he's getting pretty good at it) make for an enjoyable experience. Noodle (Dior) is something of a weak link. I was never sure why the women were falling for him in the film. Maybe it was supposed to be the hair. This is the first HK film I've seen to feature Windows 95 and the World Wide Web. The end shot suggests that this may be based on a shoujo manga serial.

I was quite surprised by and impressed with Sammi Cheung: she's a real, natural actress (I've admired her alto voice, if not her typically sappy song material before). And Gigi Leung accomplishes the impossible: she makes Dior look like he can act, by comparison! I guess she gets work because she is the only human who looks exactly like those saucer-eyed manga heroines. I also thought the first half of the movie was kind of fresh and witty, but then things collapsed into standard romance-denouement. I expected more from Joe Ma.

One of the most enjoyable films of the year. Honestly, I have not enjoyed a HK film this much since God of Gamblers' Return. Maybe it's just I like the cast, maybe it's just I like the story, but this is a film I enjoyed without feeling guilty. Eric Kot is back to old form as Hui Lok, and Dior Cheng, despite of what he keeps on saying, is still following Andy Lau's footsteps. The female leads are surprisingly good. Just sit back, relax, and let the film ride.
