CHARACTERS:
Tae-hee (BAE Doo-na) - The Lovable Dreamer
"There's no one I shouldn't like and there's nothing I shouldn't do..."
Tae-hee buys things whenever she sees a salesperson. An ever 'sweet' girl, she helps her friends without fail every time they ask a favor of her. At times eccentric, she dreams of becoming a sailor one day and a politician another. And now, Tae-hee begins a love that everyone questions and no one understands.

The Japanese film journal Kinema makes special reference to BAE Doo-na's charm shown in the film, "Barking Dog Never Bites," praising that her performance can be comparable with that of actor SHIM Eun-ha in "Christmas in August." The film industry unanimously agrees that she is the number one actor of next generation.

Hae-joo (LEE Yo-won) - Beautiful and Ambitious
"I can't live my life running errands all the time. I'll fix my nose, learn English and I will definitely succeed."
A 'beautiful' girl, Hae-joo is attractive enough to have a boyfriend who loves her unconditionally and to look good like a model in anything she wears. Although she dreams of success working at a brokerage firm, Hae-joo is a bit 'sad,' growing weary while running tedious errands. Behind her proud facade, her pain deepens.

LEE Yo-won admirably performs Hae-joo, her first leading role. She actually improvised the dialogue about the plastic surgery in the film. With careful analysis of the character and her desire for good acting, she freely displays her capability on the screen.

Ji-young (OK Ji-young) - The Mysterious Outsider
"I want to become a textile designer. So I want to go study abroad. Everybody goes abroad these days. Why can't I?"
Smart and talented in art, mature and thoughtful, Ji-young is also a real 'cool' girl. But because of her difficult environment, every day is a struggle for her. Consoling herself with her yellow-dyed hair, she is actually quite 'lonely.' For some time, she has grown wordless.

With her clear skin, good height and slender body, OK Ji-young is a star of the fashion industry whose career has been growing rapidly and successfully. At the audition, she magnetized everyone with her strong image. She won the role by unanimous vote. "Take Care of My Cat" introduces this powerful newcomer.

Bi-ryu & Ohn-jo (LEE Eun-sil & LEE Eun-ju) - The Cheerful Twins
Strange because of their Chinese mother and intimate because they are twins, Bi-ryu and Ohn-jo are quite 'special.' Curious about the world and always joyous, they are true 'optimists.' But is everything really fun for them?

Starring in commercials, TV dramas and films, LEE Eun-sil and Eun-ju are star twins. Just like their identical faces, their partnership is perfect enough even to improvise lines together. They are a 'natural born combo.'' Like their characters in the film, they set a good mood for the film set with their lively and cheerful personalities.

PRODUCTION NOTES:
Why is this a twenty-year-old woman's film?
We wanted to tell a story that nobody has talked about yet many people would empathize with. Therefore we decided to talk about "women." There have been many films observing women but few have penetrated into the mind of women and breathed in their world. Throwing away their school uniforms and jumping the fence of 'teenage' chastity, they are facing the world for the first time as 'women.' We were curious about their feelings. There are five women here - these twenty-year-olds curl up like cats and are always roaming here and there. Like twenty-year-olds who just float around, the film "Take Care of My Cat" disc+overs these cat-like women, feels with them, and coexists with them.

An earnest and refreshing film about twenty-year-olds
The previous films treating twenty-year-olds have not been free from "sex." They merely 'watched' twenty-year-olds. "Take Care of My Cat" reveals what 'true' twenty-year-olds are about. The film portrays the majority who worry about a cheap T-shirt at a marketplace rather than the privileged few who live at the South end of Seoul. It is more about the majority who do not go to college than the few who do go. It is about the majority who worry about other stuff more than just sex... In this way, "Take Care of My Cat" becomes a genuine 'twenty-year-olds film' illustrating the lives of typical twenty-year-olds.

Seventy locations in motion
A story with natural rhythm and deep and rich visuals, "Take Care of My Cat" was shot on more than seventy locations. This is twice the average of most films. Moreover, each location holds a special meaning. From the back streets of the slums to downtown high rises, from a trendy restaurant to a crowded beer hall, an airport, harbor, subway, train or bus - these dynamic spaces connect one place to the other. As if to mirror the wandering of twenty-year-olds, all the space in "Take Care of My Cat" is on the move. All this motion makes the city more alive and the characters grow more vivid.

We recommend that viewers focus on the rough yet rich visuals of the film made possible through a technique called "bleach bypass." This method sustains the silver, which normally is washed out in the film developing process. The technique was first explored by Darius Conge, the director of photography for the film, "Seven." Korean films such as "Il Mare" and "Friends" used this method as well.
