This film depends on your capacity for Andy Lau. If you like him, then this movie is for you, because there is plenty of screen time for him. However, the arrogance and temperament of his character just made me so mad, that every time I saw his character, I fumed. It is a drama; the downfall to these type of movies is that if you don't like the central character, then you pretty much don't like the strength of the movie.
But besides his performance, there were some good racing scenes that were quite exhilarating.
Overall, I see this as a hit or miss movie. If you are able to relate to Andy Lau's character, then this movie is a poignant story about one struggling to overcome all life's hardships to be a hero, even just for a moment. Otherwise, it can seem too whiny; that if life doesn't go our way, then we just need to pout about it. |
