This is one of my favorite comedies. When the menu comes up, you think, huh, an epic drama. Don't let it fool you, it's a great deal of fun. Add in a couple of Chinese opera-ish songs, great music, and extremely fun storyline that has humor and heart. It's a winner.

Some reviews I had read did not rate this film very highly, but after seeing 2046 I was interested in seeing this Wong Kar Wai production, also featuring Tony Leung and Faye Wong. I found Chinese Odyssey 2002 charming, funny and even a little bit moving. Maybe it is the magic that comes from chemistry between Leung and Wong.

Chinese Odyssey 2002 pokes a little fun at Chinese film conventions, has some unusual references to American pop culture and looks fabulous of my 16x9 TV. It is both a drama and a comedy, but does not cross over into some of the over-the-top slapstick present in some Chinese films. I enjoyed every minute of the film and highly recommend it.
