I seem to remember not being too impressed with this one the first time I watched it. But after the second time, I must admit that it isn't bad. The choreography is really rather nice. My only criticisms are that there seems to be a huge hole in the story (is there a scene missing between when our hero's uncle disowns him and he fights the dude in red only to be rescued by monkey?), and what's with the huge red herring in Lung Fei and the man in red? Oh and then there's Chen Sing showing up for the last ten minutes of the movie to bust out his bad tiger's claw.

But that aside, this is a rare opportunity to see Meng Fei without a sword, or a fan, a weave, or an expensive set of silk pajamas.

A top flight movie with a good storyline.

Meng Fei is very good in this movie, but the movie itself is hit or miss. On the negative side, the drunken master is annnoying and really doesn't do much. The comedy ranges from terribly unfunny to very funny. On the positive side, there are some pretty good fight scenes and the aforementioned performance by Meng Fei. I guess overall this is just a bit above average.

I can't say I liked this film. I'm not sure if there is a drastic difference, but I saw the Vidtape version and wasn't impressed. Maybe I've allowed Jackie Chan to set too high a standard, but this movie still seemed to lack anything special. I expect a certain "cartoonish" quality to the drunken style, and here it seemed more "sober". The teacher was rather annoying and very limited in his role from an action standpoint. The action was solid but again I expect a more chaotic approach. It really just strikes me as average which for this kind of movie is a negative.

This movie was average. I didn't really understand the story, but the action was awesome. The ending was pretty cool. Drunken Kung Fu is what's learned and that's what makes the movie exciting.

One of my faves from when I was a kid. I love the fact that it shows the various big cat styles (tiger, leopard, lion, etc.). It has issues like all the old ones do as far as story or English translations but is a joy to watch.

This movie is boring-snoring, I swear. I am a very open-minded viewer especially when coming to kung fu flix but this one is so bad because it tries to be a comedy and fails. Also, there is only one decent fight in the whole movie and it's in the last five minutes. I'd stay away from this and for all you drunken fans I'd recommend any other over this one.
