| Shame that the Megastar dvd is probably my least favourite ever. It is framed at 1.85:1 but the print is quite dirty in places. Colurs are good but a bit subdued. It's perfectly acceptable but this is high on my list of wanted re-releases.
The cantonese Dolby Digital 2.0 track works pretty good. I'm glad they didn't do a remix on this one since it doesn't need one at all. It's mostly dialogue plus Lowell Lo's music that needs to be clear and they both are. Mandarin and Thai dubs (the Thai track is in 5.1) are also included. Note that the audio and subtitle options are not available in the discs menu. You have to do it yourself using the remote.
The english subtitles have a really bad font which makes them look sloppy and spelling errors are found here and there as well. This is not the worst part though. The subtitles are one or two lines ahead of the spoken dialogue from the 21 minute mark til the 36 minute one. This is extremely annoying but thankfully this part of the movie is not the most important one. It mostly shows the two main characters bonding with each other so in the end my enjoyment of the movie wasn't affected. Other subtitle options provided are traditional and simplified chinese, malaysian and indonesian.
We can't talk about extras becuase there aren't any. I would've liked the theatrical trailer at least. |
